Tis Hazari Court Complex — Asia's Largest District Court
Tis Hazari Court Complex, inaugurated on 19 March 1958 by Chief Justice A.N. Bhandari of the Punjab High Court, is Delhi's principal district court and widely described as the largest court complex in Asia. Located at Nitya Nand Marg near Kashmere Gate, opposite St. Stephen's Hospital, the complex covers 75,000 square yards and houses hundreds of courtrooms.
When the complex was built, Tis Hazari was the only district court for all of Delhi. Over time, new complexes opened at Patiala House, Karkardooma, Rohini, Dwarka, and Saket — but Tis Hazari remains the principal and headquarters complex of Delhi's district judiciary, with the Principal District & Sessions Judge and the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) for all of Delhi presiding here.
